There's a voice then, young but not quite playful, and Sirius startles once more as it gets closer, no longer muffled through the door separating them from the hallway as its pushed open.
Kieren's sister. He knows it instinctively though he's only ever seen her in a few of Kieren's sketches. She stares at him, wide-eyed, before shouting down to Kieren's mother. And then there's another voice and Sirius suddenly doesn't know if he should Apparate or jump out the window or pretend there isn't a single thing wrong.
Luckily, he doesn't have to decide at all as she closes the door with purpose and, beside him, Kieren lets out a breath.
"She didn't appear surprised to see you," he points out, still wondering over the whole thing as he carefully pulls himself out from between Kieren's sheets. The floor is cool beneath his feet. "It's like you haven't been gone at all."
